I am super excited to be travelling to Vienna shortly for this fantastic new show from Atelier Coolpool Vienna and ArtCan on 9 to 23 September.
With a nod to all the anniversary celebrations of ABBA this year, the show is called 'Take A Chance On Me'.

I'M ON TV!

24 July 2022

Whilst I can't pretend the programme was all about me, I had great fun watching this engaging and informative documentary about the RA Summer Exhibition. Presented by the one-and-only Joe Lycett, it was on BBC2, and can still be viewed on the BBC iPlayer app - "Joe Lycett: Summer Exhibitionist".
My cyanotype "Aquarius" and I pop up a few times in the background. It was exciting to see Aquarius heading for the traditional judging stool, which has been part of the RA forever - a bit like the sorting hat at Hogwarts. Luckily, it was picked!

It was  a lovely surprise to learn that I have been shortlisted for this year's VAA Professional Artist Award!
Further rounds of judging will take place later in the year.
Watch this space, and wish me luck..!

Chroma new date.jpg

THE PRIVATE VIEW DATE HAS BEEN RESET FOR 24 AUGUST

19 July 2022

Because of the unusually hot weather and the predicted ensuing transport chaos, the Private View for Chroma has been reconvened for Wednesday 24 August.
Tickets can still be booked via Eventbrite by searching for ArtCan Chroma. Previous bookings for 19 July are still valid, with no need to rebook.
Hope to see you there!

Eco Hub.jpg

ST ANDREWS ECO HUB

 1 July - 31 August 2022

I was delighted to be invited to display four of my cyanotypes in the Eco Hub, to help promote their plastic-free initiatives this summer!

The Eco Hub has all sorts of wonderful projects underway in their new premises in Kinnessburn Road, St Andrews. It has completely refurbished an old betting shop using reclaimed materials and soon it will also be adding a full refill facility in addition to the resources it already offers.

One of the amazing things the Eco Hub supports is the St Andrews Beach Wheelchairs on the West Sands (famous for being the beach in the opening sequence of Chariots Of Fire). I will be making a donation to the Wheelchairs for any of my works sold during their time on display in the Eco Hub.

EAST NEUK OPEN STUDIOS

2 - 3 July 2022

This year's Open Studios was fairly quiet, possibly due to a recent surge in Covid cases locally.
However, my visitors proved that it is quality, not quantity that counts!
I had so many lovely comments and I was very happy to also sell some of my work, including to one wonderful collector who arranged to come back after the event to make the purchase they had been considering.
Our next event will be at Bowhouse, by St Monans on the weekend of 5 November.

Can you see the little red dot?
I am delighted that "Aquarius" has sold to an art collector before the RA Summer Exhibition opens to the public, from 21 June to 21 August.

SELECTED BY GRAYSON PERRY, CBE RA

14 June 2022

I could not be happier!

Aquarius was selected by the one-and-only Grayson Perry to hang in his excitingly vibrant yellow Gallery VIII in London's Royal Academy of Arts.

The Summer Exhibition is now open and runs until 21 August 2022.

SELECTED FOR THE ROYAL ACADEMY SUMMER EXHIBITION 2022

1 June 2022

I am beyond delighted! This cyanotype has been selected to hang in this year's Royal Academy Summer Exhibition on the theme of 'Climate'.

Made using washed up old rubbish

(and with the invaluable participation of 'Dave')

this piece addresses climate change through our over-dependence on

 - and refusal to address the consequences of -

an endless stream of single-use plastics.

ACTUALLY INTO THE ROYAL ACADEMY!

11 MAY 2022

On a very wet day, which seems appropriate for this year's theme of 'Climate', my cyanotype 'Aquarius' and I (ably assisted by David, whose image also appears in my work) made the slightly precarious bus journey into Piccadilly and through the hallowed portals of the Royal Academy!

We will find out on 1st June if we have made the final selection, or whether it is the bus home again...

EXHIBITION IN PARIS - WE ARE INTERNATIONAL!

1 MAY 2022

Paris has always been a favourite city of mine and I really could not be happier to be showing my work as part of a group show with the wonderful ArtCan, hosted by Kroll, in the 9th Arondissement of Paris from the beginning of May until December this year.

SHORTLISTED FOR THE RA SUMMER EXHIBITION 2022

6 APRIL 2022

I am delighted to announce that I have had this piece selected for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition!

The theme for this year's exhibition is 'Climate', which is a subject very close to my heart.

This piece is 'Aquarius', made with found waste plastics and it is a commentary on the damaging effects of our lifestyle on our environment, from the littering of our oceans to the ever increasing use of fossil fuels and petrochemicals in the mass production of single-use plastics. Frequently used to briefly contain drinks, then destined to pollute our waters for generations to come.

INVITATION TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX AND ARTIST'S TALK

28 APRIL 2022

It was such a wonderful surprise to be invited to exhibit some of my work at the University of Essex's Art Exchange gallery and deliver an artist's talk on my work in the gallery on 29 April.

The exhibition addresses food waste and food justice.

Entitled '6.7 million tonnes: we have bin through a lot', this fascination group show featuring eight international artists runs until 27 May 2022.

ONLINE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION

25 APRIL 2022

Not many people know that I also make sculptures from my beach-salvaged items, in addition to my more familiar cyanotypes.

I was particularly delighted to have been selected by curator and wonderful sculptor Cath Stocker to be part of her innovative virtual exhibition dedicated entirely to sculptures which have their inspiration in activism and offer new insights beyond what is immediately visible to the viewer.

Artivism In|Sight is hosted on the ArtCan website at www.artcan.org.uk and can be viewed in 360 degree virtual reality, complete with a beautiful soundscape recorded especially for this exhibition.

THE UNCOOK BOOK - COMING SOON!

All profits from the sale of The Uncook Book will be donated to Friends Of The Earth.

I was delighted to have the privilege of being asked by Make It Blue UK to design a greetings card for their Christmas fundraiser to support mental health and well-being of live events professionals who lost their jobs because of Covid and have no government support.

The cards can be ordered online from http://www.makeitblue.uk, with all profits going to this very worthy cause.
